Support for Zen 3 (Ryzen 5000) was added in bios update F60:

If you wanted a simple upgrade then you could put a 5600X on that board, I wouldn't go higher though. Something to note however, it's not stated here but from past experience updating a B450 to support Zen 3 often means you lose support for Ryzen 1000 CPU's so you wouldn't be able to put your 1600 back on it afterwards unless you do a bios flashback, not sure however if the latter is always possible. The 5600X is not far off twice as fast as what you have:

Ok your system is decent enough to play most games at mid details at 1080p. Your CPU may hold back your max frame rate in many newer games. Depending what GPU you get there are some gains to be had there.

Our question now would be, whats your goals here? Are you planning on playing esports titles, or something more demanding?

and is it worth buying:
AMD Ryzen 7 2700X
if the processor is worse then the gpu?

Nothing, you will pay through the nose for a GPU right now, the 1600 might not be the fastest 6 core on the block but it's still well worth having. Are you having performance problems?
What I would recommend though is a large SSD to install your favourite apps and games on.

i rly cant play rust the fps drops below 20fps. unplayable
Ah I see, I saw someone else post about Rust issues on their AMD system. On paper at least you should be fine but I think they concluded it was a CPU issue. I don't have the game so don't know how intensive it is. If you do upgrade your CPU though, I wouldn't go with anything less than Zen 2. Since you have a B550 already though, the Ryzen 5 5600X would give you a huge boost in performance per core over the 1600 and would slot into your existing setup.

I agree with the processor recommendation, even a Ryzen 5 3600X or Ryzen 7 3700X would be a good choice. and may be cheaper. I would not bother with a 2700X.

As for GPU yeah that market is still a mess however you can get an RX6600 for around $450 which would be a big bump for you. Could probably still sell your R9 290 on ebay for around $150ish, to at least offset that cost.
