Question I need help with installing a graphics card on HP PC (I've never done this before) ?

Hello, hoping you can help me. I recently purchased the NVIDIA GeForce GT 710 low profile 1GB to upgrade from AMD Radeon HD 7450 on my computer.
This is my first time installing a graphics card and after installing it my computer will make it to the HP blue screen, beep a few times, and then my screen goes black saying "No Signal".

I have tried different monitors, cords, and hdmi, still the same issue. I tried to install the new drivers for the 710 before with the older graphics card, but it will not work as it cannot find the new card. I have read to try to update the BIOS but no luck on even where to begin to do that, total newb. If anyone can walk me step by step as to what I am supposed to do? I was assured by tech support this new card would work just fine with my setup. any help is greatly appreciated.

Sorry, I do not know what that means. How can I find out? I have only upgraded RAM and the harddrive on this computer. Other than that it's basically stock I would imagine.

Your computer has integrated graphics with an output port on the motherboard. Do you get video output from the motherboard's video output port when you remove the dedicated (discrete) GPU from the system?

How would I be able to tell? I have no idea what that means. If I remove the graphics card, there is nothing to connect the monitor to, so I don't know. Is there a step by step process? Not familiar with any of this. I was told I could just pop on the new graphics card and it would work. But I receive No Signal on my monitor, and hdmi, nothing happens past a HP Blue logo screen, it goes black when the new MSI graphics card is installed.

Your i7-2600 has integrated graphics, meaning it has an Intel graphics accelerator built-in. Most Intel PCs with integrated graphics would have a VGA or DVI adapter on the back of the computer near your USB ports. Try removing the GT 710 and plugging your monitor into the VGA or DVI on the back of the computer.

Ok, just tell us when you bought the computer itself then so we have an idea of how old that PS is.

Also, can you give us a link to the HP support page, so we can do further research?

Upon further review, I think you should be replacing that PS regardless.

I can confidently estimate that computer you have was built somewhere around 2012 (based off of when the Radeon board was brought to market), so the PS is like 11 years old to being with. I highly doubt HP built it to last a decade, so I suspect it's on it's last legs.

Start there, and let's see what happens.

Yes it's pretty old, but I just had it serviced and the harddrive replaced. The tech said it's running great but would need a new graphics card as it's been failing. Just trying to make this baby run until I can afford a new rig.

Try putting the old one back in and see if it works again.

The old graphics card works when it's installed, it fails sometimes. Hense the upgrade. What does RMA mean? As per the other person who was replying to me, should I remove the "do not remove" plastic covers and try to hook the monitor directly to that port?

There's probably nothing wrong with the card. The Pavilion H8 series board requires a firmware update that HP motherboard supplier Pegatron did create but HP neglected to pass on to their customers because they would rather you buy another PC instead.

Try pressing F12 on boot and selecting PXE boot when that option shows up after a couple of minutes. After that times out it may eventually boot to Legacy BIOS mode with the card working. Yes, you would need to perform this procedure on each bootup so I would personally get a Torx screwdriver and undo those covers to use the IGP instead.

A GT710 is barely faster than the Sandy Bridge IGP you already have (the HD7450 is much slower than either). FYI, Haswell IGP and GT730 GDDR5 are about 2.5x as fast as those.

Huh, here's someone with the exact same problem as you, GT710 in Pegatron 2AB5/HP IPISB-CH2 "Chicago" motherboard.

If you feel like rolling the dice, an HP customer has modified the Pegatron BIOS for use on the HP. i7-2600 is certainly fast enough to do justice to the GTX 1650 SUPER that they used.

I do not recommend flashing a customer modded BIOS (as that would involve trusting some random person not to have included malware in it), but you have both a DVI monitor and two DVI ports on the motherboard under those covers attached to the IGP which performs nearly as well as the GT710. All you need is the right Torx screwdriver to remove those covers.

I will try that, because I was quoted way too much money for the local tech to fix it. Thank you, will report back.

Edit. Do you know a way to somehow still connect with an hdmi to the tv? I used this computer alot for streaming.

Either DVI should be able to be converted to HDMI with a simple pin-adapter or conversion cable. Be aware that single-link DVI is limited to 1080p resolution, same as HDMI up to v1.2a

You can reuse the same DVI cable you used with the HD7450 on the HP monitor as that's also only 1080p so no special dual-link cable is needed

Back again. I have ordered the windows 10 kit to upgrade this computer. Do you think it will take care of the bios issue, if I were to then try an upgrade the graphics card? I'm even trying to find the same old card on eBay, no luck yet. Just need to keep this going until I can afford the jump to a Skytech PC.
