I need help

So i just bought a mobo because the old one died,i installed the new mobo and i had problems.If i used my i5 2500 cpu the pc would start but shut itself down after a second or two.If i used some older cpu(same socket) the pc would start but it would beep 3 times then step then again beep.(i checked what it means and it means there is a probem with memory).i had one 4gb ram stick in the first slot and the second one was empty,i changed that stick with an older 2gb stick(its ddr3 as well) and still getting the beeps.I tried various slot combionations(there are just 2 slots) and still the same.What is the problem?

First of all.....is the BIOS that is installed the correct BIOS for the CPUs you are trying to use?
