I need a new cpu for my dell inspiron 530 and how can I tell which cpus will fit inside? I want to get one from core i3 or core i5.

Can I get a new motherboard that is dell and put it into the inspiron 530 so i can get a i5 or i3?

Solution

First of all, I mistook your PC as laptop for which accept my apology. Second, in order to have i3 or i5 you would need to change your mobo as well. If you have budget, then you can grab mobo plus cpu.I was searching for motherboard specs on your PC. It turns out to be microATX.

So if you want to buy a new mobo then keep the size in mind. Also keep in mind that this mobo does not support quad core CPUs for which Dell use another mobo from OEM.

I actually do not plan to get a new motherboard but I want to get a new cpu that is a core 2 quad. Will a core 2 quad fit on my motherboard? Ive also read that the xeon processors are built the same way that the core 2 quads are. Can I possibly set up a mod to change the pins on the xeon processor to go from 771 pins to 775 pins? Ive read that you can do that and the mod is inexpensive but does it work without problems?

What would be best for me to do?

Actually I think I am going to go with a Core 2 duo E8600 because it is a bit more powerful and it i only a bit more expensive.
