I need some help picking a processor....

I have a Elite P4VXASD2+ motherboard that I need to upgrade the processor on but there are some many in the 2.4 - 2.53 gig range that I am not sure what to get. I'm looking to spend about $150 and this will be for two DVD video's that I'm making for the family. So here are the questions:

1. Will this board work with the Prescott CPU's ? (I don't think so)

2. Will this board work with HT processors and if not then why?

3. Are there any 1meg cache processors around 2.4gig that will work on this board?

To answer your questions.

1) NO

2) No - HyperThreading enabled CPUs run at 800MHz FSB, or the P4C series...Your mobo only supports 400/533MHz FSB.

3) NO. 512MB L2 cache is the best you'll find...

as sparky said ur only good choice is 512<b>KB</b> L2 cache, 1MB cache processors only starts at 2.8Ghz, and no difference but excess heat anyway 😉

The socket 754 a64 3200+ and higher, the socket 939 4000+, and the fx series offer 1mb L2 cache.

The key is the core. The Clawhammer and Sledgehammer cores have 1MB cache. The Clawhammer s754 chips are also clocked 200Mhz slower than the Newcastle cores - the bigger benefit would be to go for the higher clock and 512KB cache.

His board is for intel CPU's not Athlon64s!!!

The most important thing for editing videos is lots of RAM and fast hard drives. I edited my holiday video on my 3.25Ghz system with A RAID0 array and 512MB of RAM and I really think I woulda benefitted from 1GB system RAM.

Well, you're forgetting the 3.06Ghz 533Mhz P4B. The first one they released with HT (IIRC)

But given the context that he's asking about 2.4-2.5Ghz CPUs, still right, pretty much
