I have zero understanding about the whole modem and router thing. I need to upgrade though, I have this junk Belkin that says I'm stuck in nat 3 all the time even though I've gone into the router and switched the settings myself. Even on wired it says nat 3 hahah. Anyways I was wondering, this Asus RT-N66U, do I need a dsl modem to run it? Or can I just go straight from my wall jack to the router? I mean the line coming from the phone jack to my Belkin is doing just fine, is this Asus router dsl compatible? If not can someone tell me a decent dsl modem that wont bog my ping or speeds?

The router: http://www.asus.com/Networking/RTN66U/

I do know about the all in one router....but I'm not spending $300 for that puppy.

Hi, Hope this info will help you my friend;

Kind of NAT's.

Nat 1 is a connection straight to internet
Nat 2 is a connection through a router.
Nat 3 means there is something wrong with your connection. YOU have limited connectivity.

Check your UPnP and DMZ zone configuration.

Or try to set up a static ip address for your device and assign it to the DMZ on your router. Don't bother with port forwarding and all that. If you're in a DMZ it's redundant. If you're not in a DMZ, set up one.
Belkin happens to be better at Routers than Asus actually.....
You'll need an ADSL2 Router with WiFi if you're going to be using it.....
And the routers telling you that you're stuck at NAT 3 only Because you've gone and set it up yourself.....
Buying another Router from my point of view isn't going to be of any help....
Let the Provider send a techie to fix the issue.... it's a very small issue.

Hahaha bud, don't come in here with your crap answer, and try pinning it on me. Ive forwarded ports, static, all that jazz and its stuck in type 3. If you would of read that its wired connection and stuck on nat 3 you'd understand there's a problem. It's a cheap router so yes buying a new, more modern router will be the best solution. I'll just start researching this. Was hoping for an easy yes or no, and what model to buy, instead I get the troll.
