I recently got accepted for a position as an ADCS engineer and my current laptop won't cut it. The main requirement is that it needs to play nice with both windows and linux as I will be double booting. I'm not too picky about the laptop, so long it does it's job decently it's fine by me. I'm looking at Acer Aspire 3 A315-44P since there is a 100$ off deal on it right now, here is a link to the posting https://www.komplett.no/product/125...aerbar-laptop/acer-aspire-3-a315-44p-156-fhd# Also ordering from international sellers is pretty much out of the question because Norway has 25% import duties.
If you think a laptop from a lower budget could be enough to fulfill my requirement please tell me.
Edit: I'm now deciding between https://www.elkjop.no/product/pc-da...3-i7-1116512-156-barbar-pc-pure-silver/616151 and https://www.komplett.no/product/125...baerbar-laptop/acer-aspire-3-a315-44p-156-fhd
The first one has double the ram and storage, though the second one is 100$ cheaper and I'm pretty sure 16 GB ram and 512 GB storage is going to be enough for me. The real question is whether the ryzen 7 5700u is better than i7 1165g7 for my use case.
The ryzen 7 has more cores and higher iGPU frequncy but i7 has higher boost frequency and more L3 cache. From what I seen online the iGPU performance seems to be comparable. CAD software seems to be mostly dependent on single core performance while MatLab is able to get more performance from multiple cores.
I'm leaning towards the ryzen 7, 100$ extra is unfortunate but it is good value for 16GB ram and 512 GB storage and MatLab seems to be more demanding than CAD software. I'd apprecieate any input on the matter.
