He didn't want to run the windows disc for fear it would format everything so I got him to do go into the safe mode and trust that the motherboard/chipset disc would be useful. We did find the drivers on there (he's learning DOS as we go) and with that done he can get back on line to get the autodetect, to stay updated. Even with the disc, the computer said the drivers had not loaded properly, but the device manager showed everything working fine. It doesn't make us like Bill G any better when his program throws red flags at us. Thanks Rebu for seeing my post, and I hope this helps any other newbies out there.
