I need to unlock an externally connected HHD laptop drive. I know the password.

I have a locked hdd laptop drive. It was the boot drive on my laptop which shattered into pieces on concrete. I know the password. I have the drive in an external enclosure connected to another laptop using a USB cable. How can I unlock the drive using the password? Ideally, I don't want to wait until I'm provided with duplicate replacement hardware for the old computer (which would just be pop the drive back in and go.)
