I need to upgrade my comeputer for gaming

what do I need to upgrade my PC, its about 4 years old and custom built. Im running sims 3 and all its EXP and stuff packs. The game is shutting off crashing, help!

First off you'll need to tell us the complete and full specs of the current system-including the powersupply and monitor resolution.
Quite often random crashes, particulary under load are caused by clogged cooling, when was the last time you cleaned out the heatsinks and fans?
To check the temperatures: Realtemp or Speedfan for the CPU and GPU-Z for the graphics card.
