Currently i have an AMD a10-5800K @ 3.8 ghz for my computer, but i was interested in upgrading to a more beefy, cpu that would last me a long time. I would like to get a skylake chip for the future, but all im really worried about right now is gaming. What are your opinions and suggestions? I was thinking an i5 6600K would do the trick. Thanks for the advice!

If he wants to upgrade now, which is what he seems to be saying, I would suggest an I5-6600k. Not enough games will use HT to justify a Xeon or an I7 for a gaming build. Plus...

If you're looking for gaming, then the GPU (Graphic processing unit) should be your priority. The a10-5800k is an ok CPU, despite being 3 years old. What is your current build like overall? (GPU, Motherboard, RAM, etc.)

I have a GTX 760, its great but im looking for a better cpu to prevent bottle necking, as in the future i plan on upgrading to something like a 980ti or 980 for my graphics card.

with your money i would wait for the asrock e3v5 gaming/oc motherboard to come out and pair it with the e3-1230v5. you can overclock the xeon to 4.2ghz or so and have 6700k performance at a fraction of the cost. currently the xeon is $250 and the motherboard will likely cost about $150. throw in 16gb of 2800-3200mhz ddr4 for $100 and you will have plenty of horsepower for many years to come. of course pricing is everything but its worth a shot at waiting to see if that combo becomes the 'k' processor killer since baseclock oc is back on non k processors.

Plus finding motherboards for Xeon chips is a pain, since they aren't purely intended on consumer use. An I5-6600k with an MSI z170 Krait Gaming and 16GB of DDR4-2400 ram. You don't need faster ram atm and going for 2800-3200 would be total overkill for your budget. If you plan on gaming with it, this CPU could easily last until 2020 before it becomes a bottleneck.

kind of like that http://pcpartpicker.com/p/kBnWRB
