This is my build:

I may need to get a replacement shield for an nVidia/MSI MCP73PV motherboard. If you look at the pictures, there is plastic and duct tape where the I/O shield should be. From reading around here it see seems like I/O shields are used for grounding. I was under the assumption that they were just dust blockers and air flow controllers, so I made a DIY shield with plastic and duct tape. I would happily use the proper shield for the mobo, but it is a propietary build from Acer, and the shield is actually part of the case and welded on. It's not something I can snap out and put in the new case. Looking at the Acer Aspire X1700 service manual, it seems to be a nVidia MCP73PV board. Like all parts in the computer, it is old. It is probably from 2008 or so, since I bought it in early 2009.

I need to know
A. if it is absolutely crucial to have a proper shield, and
B. where one could locate such a stand-alone shield, if it even exists.

This is what it looks like in its original casing.
