i ordered a i9 7980xe from amazon and got this?

i ordered one, recieved this in the box, it didnt fit my x299 motherboard, i already have a i9 7900x, also the ihs looks wrong and the chip as a whole even from bottom side doesnt look correct, told amazon, got a replacement and recieved the exact same thing, what is it?

edit: to add the boxes on both looked brand new sealed and legit, and it was bought DIRECTLY from amazon

It is possible that someone returned a purchase and previously replaced the cpu with a fake.

"Directly from Amazon" means little if some of the folks listing items on Amazon are thieving scammers...

If you received the wrong CPU, best to start disputing your $1700 charge ASAP!!!!

Take photos, and explain that the seller in question is, even if unwittingly' selling total duds/fakes...two in a row.

Either he was scammed and is accidentally selling fakes, or, he is the scammer.

You want a refund, not a replacement from the same bogus seller/source....

Put in a claim with Amazon asap before dude takes your money and runs. Leaves Amazon a few more options for refund and possible sanctions/charges filed for fraud.
