I ordered a pc with an amd fx 4300 and nvidia gtx 960, is this good enough for 1080p gaming with high settings?

Should I be able to run most games in 1080p with high settings with this setup?

You'll probably be closer to low - medium settings to maintain descent FPS at 1080p. You'll certainly be able to play the most recent games with those components, just probably not at high settings.

Specific FPS and settings will vary depending upon which exact game title you're playing.

what is holding it back? ive looked at all the benchmarks and it seems as if it should get 45 or so fps in high settings

Weak CPU and the 960 is not that great of a 1080 card.

The FX-4300 is the weakest point, and will struggle on newer CPU hungry games like Witcher 3.

-During the most taxing moments of the game the FPS would drop enough to require turning the settings down further (like some areas of Novigrad).

As I said, it's going to be a mix depending on the title as to what you'll be able to get for FPS and specific settings, but generally for good FPS you'll be averaging closer to the medium side of things.

I can't say about 1080p bt I have same cpu and zotac-nvidia-geforce-gtx960 amp edition and I am running the latest games at ultra settings with more than 30 fps at 900p resolution

Well I just happen to have a gtx 960 with an fx 4300 I also have a core i7 6700 with a gtx 970. I can set all of the settings to high and ultra bla bla bla on both machines. the fx 4300 is a powerhouse. don't let intel trolls fool you. as long as you can keep your cpu at or below 50c you can throttle that baby any way you need it to. if your not getting the ipc's you need setup an overclock. if the program your running needs more ghz turn it up. it's just silicon bro.

My son has simmalar rig and plays high to ultra settings n is really pleased with it 960 isn't a enthusiast card but can definitely deliver playable fps in most modern games at 1080p n fx 4300 gets lot of negativity but seems to be good match other son has 4gb 960 with fx 8350 witch is overclocked to 4.6 GHz n both pcs preform simmalarly in games just my experience and my opinion
