Ok, I decided to upgrade my cpu from p3 500 to p3 1 gig. But I had a 440bx motherboard, so I had a choice. Over clock my mobo or buy a new one. Based on what I learnd here at Thomeshardware with the killer preformance an over clocked 440bx can get you. I went with keepping my 440 and flashing my BIOS to support 133 fsb. OK, every thing worked fine exceped my Viper II video card. It couldn't handle the AGP at 89hz. But it was old so up graded to gforce 2 gts ultra. And installed 1 exaust fan and a giant squrill exaust fan right over the gpu. Every thing works fine as far as stability but needless to say I am vary disapointed in the preformace my new beefed up PC is getting. Being The hard core gamer that I am. I use Quake 3 time demo and 3d mark 2001 for all my benchmarking. SO here are my scorz= I avrage only 82fps in q3 with all effects on at 800x600. Only 20 more fps than my old p3-500xViper2 got. In 3d mark at 800x600 I score a meezly 2495. Well below other simaler setups getting arownd 4500 plus. Anyway here is a list of all my parts.
Abit BE6-II440bx mobo
p3-1 gig cpu
Annihilator 2 Ultra
128 meg of no name pc100 ram
128 meg of no name pc133 ram
Creative pci 128 sound card
10/100 nic
and win98 sec ta boot
Any takers on what could be slowing my gaming pc down.

133MHz FSB with PC100? What is your memory timing set at? Did you overclock your video card? A settup like this with the memory set to 2/2/2 and the video card overclocked to 220/380 should give you around 3500-4000. If anything is set lower, expect less. I get around 3000 with a PIII 933, same card, with the settings I gave you. And start testing with the default test settings.

Ok, I decided to leave in that pc100 ram at 133 fsb because I showd a decrease in performance with just the 128 stick of pc133.
Is this slowing down my memory speed? And about the memory timming settings hmmm...ummm..iduno ;P
How do I do that? And I didn't over clock my video card. So, is the pc100 ram by defalt slowing down my memory bus speed?

<font color=blue>I imagine you should replace the pc100 with a 256PC133 and use name brand. I am not sure that is the main problem for your slow times, but certainly fix the easy problems first. Add the 128 PC133 only when you think everything else is fixed. Of course -Crash will probably have a better solution.

OK, are you running the 1000EB (133), the 1000E (100), or still the old 500? If your running one of the 100MHz FSB processors, the PC100 won't slow you down. If your running the 1000EB right now at 100MHz FSB you just made it an exensive 750. If you have the 1000EB running at the proper 133FSB, your PC100 is also running at 133, your lucky it works. You said you were going to upgrade, that's fine, but in order to understand what's going on you have to tell me what bus speed you are running NOW.

I just whant to start off by saying thank you for you guyz replying. Ok, I am running my p3-1000 at a front side bus of 133. And I do feel very lucky that my no name brand pc100 ram is running fine over spec.(pats self on back)
Also, I am vary curious to know how to set my memory timing speed.
I hope this helps.

I experimented with my memory. Heres what happend.
RAS to CAS=2
RAS precharge=2
CAS Latency=2

PC wouldn't boot up so I yanked out the pc100 then repeated. That time it worked. Ran 3dmark2001 and it keeps locking up while waitting to load the dragon game=test 3.
Quake3 now has a strange lock up and sound looping thing going on. Not a hard lock, it only lasts for half a second then repeats every second or so with the sound looping with. Then it quits after about 5 or 10 seconds. It keeps doing this every min or so. First I put memory back to 3/3/3. That didn't fix it. Then started reinstalling drivers. That didn't fix it.
I'm now at a total loss as to how to fix it.

WoooHoooo!
Reinstalled 3dmark and scored a even 3000. An over 500 point increase while still remaining stable. Reinstalled Quack3 and still get a little hickup every now and then but its not that bad. Could just be a bug in the new 129pr patch. Anyway, thank you Crashman for your help through all this. And by the way, got any other tweaks in that bag of yours?

Try bumping your video RAM up as high as it will go without errors. You can get GeForce Tweak from guru3d.com, or use coolbits, or simply use GeForce Tweak to enable coolbits. I do that last thing. Coolbits gives you an overclocking option in display settings>advance>Geforce2>aditional properties>hardware

I posted about that vary subject over at the Over Clocking 3D Chips forum. The thread is called "Over Clocking The Gforce2 Ultra". I wish I could link it for you but I don't know how to do that yet.
