The difference of course is that the 790FX boards don't have the integrated graphics like the GX board plus there are 4 PCI Express 2.0 X 16 slots. You can use 2 slots of them in 16X or 4 slots in
8 X 8 X 8 X 8 for graphics cards.I think the GX boards had 2 slots of PCI Express 2.0 X 8.

This board would be ideal for those with the Phenom BE versions of the 9600,9850 and 9950.

The important thing to remember is that the 750SB. That new SB is much better then the older ones. (first one to offer RAID5...) If you care about SB performance, you want a board that it. If you don't care about RAID5 or the other improvements, just grab any motherboard that has the older 700.

Not true. The SB750 also appears to affect overclocking a great deal, so if you're in the market for an AMD based platform it would be in your best interest to get an SB750 based board with either the 790GX or 790FX depending on your budget.

That's also the first AMD board with 2 eSATA ports and two NICs. Sounds like a winner. I'm torn bewteen GX and FX cause GX SHOULD let you pipe HDMI out of the IGP.

But hey I'm still waiting for someone to actually benchmark the latest Spider with two 4870s and an OCd 9950. No reviewers have shown any OC scores with Spider. AT least I haven't seen any. They just say, yeah, ACC works. You are basically guaranteed 3GHz+. Do your own benchmarks.

^Spider itself wont add anything more to the performance. Its just the platform name much like Centrino.

What I am woundering is why this mobo:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131331

The M3A78-T states it has support for the 140wTDP 9950BE but the CPU support list does not show this. I recommended it to a friend because it is very cost effective but it doesn't even show support for a 9850BE on Asus website and heck I can't even find the product specs for it on Asus website to make sure it is capable of the 9950BE.

^If AMD says so I will let him know. I just helped him put together a kick ass system.

Its that mobo with a 9850BE, 8GB of Corsair DDR2 1066, 2 HD4870 OC to 780/2000, Thermaltake XaserVI and 2 500GB Seagate 7200.11 SATA 3.0 HDDs. Its going to be awesome.

Oops, I forgot about ACC, thanks for the reminder. When Toms tested it, they got the CPU to 3GHz+, but they didn't show any benchmarks for that speed. Is a 3GHz+ Phenom any better then the slower clocked 2.2-2.6GHz models? I'm assuming yes, but not tremendously so.

I took the 5000+ BE in my HTPC from 2.6 to 3.1, and got basically no (200 or so) better score on 3dmark06, but it was much snappier. (780G mobo, 3870 card, with the hybrid graphics)

Now on my main gaming rig, my OC from 2.6 to 3.2 on my Q9450 gave me over a thousand more on 3dmark06.

I know we are talking dual vs quad, but the intel oc seems to scale much higher. (Same sort of conclusion with my former e6750)

The 790GX chipset do all have an HDMI out and will allow you to send video over HDMI, however the IGP is still a Radeon 3000 series so don't think you will be able to send audio over the HDMI like you can over with the 4000 series GPU's.

I'm still waiting for a few more to come out. Gonna play the wait and see this time. Look around at which ones have the bios options I want, with good stability, OC results, and voltage regulation. Wish I'd done that when I ended up getting the MSI k9a2 plat. Steady board, but the Bios support from MSI went craptastic after a while. Went from a good OCing bios board, to kinda limited options.

I'd really like to see Benchmark results though for Phenom at speeds over 2.6g on the core and at or over 2.6 on the NB.

Actually it should be a pretty solid performing system Jimmy. I know all I really need to do on mine is upgrade to a couple 4850's or 4870's, and get a better mobo and I should do fine. I don't do half bad as it is. Still manage to break 11k in 3dmark06 with my current setup.

I am sure it is a good system. He should be getting it tomorrow or so since he lives about 4 hours from the site where Newegg ships from (City of Industry Cali) so we will know then.

I get about 11K on my system (Q6600, HD2900Pro 1GB) and got near 13K when I OCed my CPU to 3GHz and OCed my GPU to 800MHz/1200MHz (2400MHz effective). But I know my system with one HD4850 should hit 13K stock and with a 4870 its near 14K.

They are powerful GPUs the 4800 series. I want a 4870 but am waiting for a 1GB version. I know I am crazy but it seems to me that having 1GB of GRAM helps with higher res textures and alows for better performance since there is more memory for more and larger textures. Or so it seems. Like my rig for example is able to play HL2: EP2 and TF2 @ 1920x1080p and still gets 60FPS.

Either way I will update you guys about the rig my friend has when he gets it up.

hmm, i though all the HD series of gpu's could handle audio and video over HDMI including the 2 series?

You are correct. All of the HD2000, HD 3000 and HD4000 GPUs can do 5.1 audio via HDMI via a adapter. The only difference between the series is the HD4K series all have the UVD2 where as the older HD2K series did not have a UVD that I was aware of unless you had a HD2600 or lower.

Who said anything about it impacting perf? I just want to see te actual platfrm OCd and benchmarked. As far as support of a CPU, you can look at the caps next to the back panel. If it's more than 4, that means it supports the 140W chips. The description is 4+1 PWM. That's all that matters.

Even if I need to output through the optical, that's fine. I just want the 50GB disks and the HD video. It's cheaper with the PC drive right now.

I should correct myself. The 3000-series GPU on these motherboards can send audio over the HDMI but only up to 5.1. If you want 7.1 you need a 4000-series GPU. My mistake.

Yes most HD3000 series video cards and HD4000 sereis video cards support the HDMI Video with 7.1 Audio through DVI to HDMI connectors which comes with all the HD3000 and HD4000 series video cards.

I have a question about overclocking my Phenom II X3 720BE I have had it as high as 3.7GHZ and stable for 5 hours as per AMD overdrives stability Test but for some reason when playing CRYSIS, or Need for Speed undercover it stops responding and sometimes takes me to the blue screen of death does anyone kow what I'm doing wrong I have my Core V at 1.525 and my Core multiplier set to 18.5 with 205 MHZ. Is this wrong??
