What was I thinking when I decided to collect these things....lol. I just
finished moving all my games over to my new house and I am thinking I need
to find a new hobby. I don't even have that many compared to some of you
guys 8 to be exact but I moved them all myself with no incidents! Well I did
have a close call when I un-hooked a friends trailer from my truck to put a
couple games in the bed, after they were loaded I hooked the trailer back
up. When I was loading the first game (Centipede) in the trailer I got it on
the ramp and as soon as I was about halfway up the ramps go straight to the
ground with a huge bang...........Damm in my haste I forgot to lock the
hitch on the ball. I wish I had pictures for you because there I am standing
there holding the dolly, standing on the ramps that are connected to the
trailer and the trailer is sticking in the air at a 45 deg angle. So there I
am scratching my head thinking how the hell do I get out of this
mess.....LOL.....Thankfully one of my neighbors sees the dilemma I am in and
comes to my rescue boy am I feeling like an ass right about now! He holds
the tongue of the trailer up and I roll the Centipede off...Ok hook the
trailer back up and LOCK the hitch on the ball and all goes
smooth..........Yea I am thinking Matchbox cars would be so much easier to
move.........Come on now I told you my story I am sure you guys got some
funny stories too.......John

Now add pinballs to the mix and try moving them! I do remember back when
I was a strong young lad and we moved. I got a U-Haul with no lift gate
(not back then) and I was dumb and left the ramp back at the old house.
Here I am, 10:30 at night with Tron stuck in the U-Haul truck. Tron and
a washer and dryer and other big items. I *could* have left them in the
truck and gone back the next day to get the ramp but nooooooooo... not
me I bellied up to the bar and grabbed that Tron with both arms.
pulled her towards me, lifted with a mighty heave-ho, stepped back 2
feet and dropped to my knees with it hitting the drive heavily but not
crashingly Never again man, never again

i once carried a frogger on my back like an egyptian slave about 100 feet
down my driveway to sell it at my yard sale. before the end of the day i ran
out to home depot to buy a handtruck. just in case it didn't sell. without
the handtruck it was either going home with a buyer or the garbage man
because i sure wasn't carrying that bitch back to the garage.

Since you've asked for our stories, here's mine.

For a long time I wanted an original 1971 Computer Space and I finally
found one in great condition and fully playable at a local pinball
store. What could be easier?? The owner could see the "buying signals"
in my eyes so he let me play the machine (though he never re-imbursed
me those dozen quarters ... darn machine has no free mode) and I knew
it must be mine.
Doing the smart thing, I asked to measure its dimensions, just so if I
could muster up enough cash I could get this retro beauty into my
apartment. 28" base, no problem.
So I took too long in buying the machine, the guy put it up for sale on
eBay. Curses! After a long bidding war and quite a few sleepless nights
I won the auction and proudly hauled the considerably light cabinet
home in my buddy's truck.

Cut to the two of us approaching my apartment door. I open it up wide
and we slide Computer Space in. KLUNK!
I was perplexed and thought maybe we had a very slight angle as we
slid, let's try it again. KLUNK!
Getting my trusty measuring tape out I found to my dismay that the base
of this machine is tapered!! Oh it's 28" at the front alright, but the
base is 30" at the back!! There's no way to get it through the door!
It looked as though with some pressure it might squeeze through but of
course this isn't a standard wooden cabinet, it's a delicate fiberglass
one. Push too hard and the thing will crack. And this Computer Space is
in such good condition there's no way I want to have that happen.

For a full hour my friend and I tried every angle we could concieve of
but there was no way to get the machine inside. So I have just spent
all this cash on a machine that I can't get into my home. It was not my
proudest moment.
Luckily, the front control panel is off-center so with a little trick
of tipping the machine one way and rotating it round we miraculously
got the machine in but I can tell you that was a very nerve-racking
experience for me.

its not too much more fun squeezing a maneater through a 32' door way.
the door had to be taken off and then we had to carry it in through
sideways, lol!
im not looking forward to having to do it again once the house is done.

When I was moving from a rental house to an upstairs apartment some time
back, I made the dumb decision of leaving two games as the LAST items to
move upstairs.

The Jungle King made it with lots of effort, but when it came to the
Crystal Castles (or was it Star Trek?), we were spent.

I remember almost laying the thing down, pulling it up the stairs
with a handtruck. I was sitting on my arse, trying to pull the thing up
with my leg muscles while my buddy was underneath pushing up. I
remember bump bump bumping down the stairs and pinning my buddy against
the wall.

That's when I said F(orget) it and we mustered up enough strength to
get it back on the truck and over to my parent's backyard.

It must have been the Crystal Castles. After we bought our house, I
retrieved it and salvaged the guts for ebay. I've since got another CC
for cheap.

Funny remembering it though..

luckily i got my collecting urge out of my system in my younger days,
but i do find myself collecting mp3's and movies, i probably have
hundreds now (thousands of mp3s)
