Question I still don't know why this bizarre thing occurs on my system ?

I think I brought this up in the past but I don't think it got anywhere, so here's a much more detailed version of what I've experienced.

I've had this ASUS P6X58D-E board paired with an I7 X970, dual set of 1070 Ti FE cards, WD 1 + 2 TB HDD + SSD, and Windows 10 and it is the only system I've personally seen do this.

During a regular boot it goes:

"Loading ASUS Express Gate" / Bios Key prompts screen appears / CD-Rom boot priority N/A / Regular Windows 10 boot screen / now we're in windows.

But ever since I got this machine it goes:

Bios key prompts screen / straight to Windows 10 boot screen / used to load the entirety of the boot time now only loads a small fraction of the time / used to actually boot but would randomly crash afterwards but completely blank screens now and I have to reboot it to get it to work

I don't know why it does this, never seen it before.

I had originally migrated the 1TB Windows 10 drive to this board and it would load into windows and crash but after reinstalling windows on the 2TB drive it just loads for 5 secs and does nothing afterwards. Won't even detect anything on my 2 other monitors even if left to sit for hours.

What did originally happen when I reinstalled windows onto the 2TB drive it completely acted normal, it would boot normal every time, no glitches or anything. But the day I left to go on a trip I brought this PC with me, the moment I hooked it up when I arrived it immediately started doing this again and it hasn't ceased since.

I have to emphasize that I've never seen this on any other machine I ever worked on, although I now call this a "security feature".

I did look up on what could be causing this problem: Bad drivers, bad hardware, bad software, malware.
The only thing I could think of would be either of the 1070 Ti's since sometimes my entire screen artifacts to grey lines for a split second and then goes away.
Couldn't be software since I've used all the same software on all my other computers, can't be malware since no detections / fresher install, can't be drivers since I went through all basic drivers and installed manufacturer ones.

Who has any ideas? This isn't that entirely important since this PC works immaculately but it does bother me a little.

ALSO, does anyone know why the stock cooler that came with this system sounds like the rod knock of a 2003 dodge caravan engine? Its quite annoying.

I apologize for this being so long, but I need to find out.

Either your post is tough to read, or I have had too many beers watching the NFL draft, I don't know, but my first concern is something is loose/ disconnected from the moving of the PC. I would try to check all connections of hardware to eliminate that from the issue.

It be like that.

I can assure you that everything is in it's place, I think the rattling is from the CPU fan. The innerworkings of it might be a little fried due to its age, but its only my best guess.

I don't know why your system keeps crashing, or what is making noise in your cooler, but there is a BIOS setting to disable ASUS Express Gate so you never have to look at the prompt again.

At this point it's a 15 year old lightweight linux distribution so I can't imagine very many people would have a use for it. It's normally installed to a folder on the C: drive so if you accidentally hit the key to boot from it... but it's not there because you neglected to install it, well that could explain why Windows doesn't boot sometimes. It's like a dual-boot manager embedded in the BIOS.

In IT terms, it's an ancient PC, component failures are increasingly possible. Most of time it starts with electrolytic capacitors.
Fan most probably has bad bearing by now. That's easier to fix.

I'll have to look at it tonight when I get home, although I've looked all over BIOS before and haven't seen anything labeled that, do you know what it could be labeled as?

Yes I know but its better then what I've used before.

Interesting, but I didn't know that was a thing, hence why it wasn't installed.

I don't think there's any bad caps, they all look good. But I think you're right, the fan does make a funny little noise when it turns off. I'll look for a replacement later.

It's under the "Tools" tab where you can also go save the BIOS settings into nonvolatile flash presets, and simply labeled "Express Gate." Strangely the presets are called "ASUS O. C. profile" but that's ASUS for you. Also under that tab is a LAN cable tester utility that is even more strangely named "AI NET 2"

I always disabled it because annoyingly by default, it displays the prompt for 10 seconds waiting for a keypress before continuing. If it was only a message next to the usual press DEL to enter setup one then everyone would've just ignored it.

I found it but it strangely didn't work so I installed the Express Gate software to see if I can get it to work normal. I'll report back in a bit.

It works now, and honestly I'll leave it on because I can just click exit now.

Thx yall.

Well this is about how I expected it to go, never as planned.

It won't load Express Gate anymore, I think because of this different keyboard. It says there's 3 when there's not and I think it doesn't like it, I'll see about it tommorow.

And also it still does the reboot required nonsense when its off too.

Need more time for troubleshooting.
