So I was installing Ubuntu alongside my Windows partition, and I clicked next when it said wipe HDD. I stopped at the next screen, the time zone selection thingy. I quickly shut off my PC, and tried to boot into Windows. I couldn't, so I tried auto recovery off my Windows 8 install disk, no luck. I checked and it says 0 gigs free of 931 when trying to install. It then says it is not NTFS.. Did I wipe my HDD? I managed to remember to backup photos + documents beforehand.. Did I just massively screw up?

Wipe the drive - no. The data is still there. Destroy the NTFS and volume - most likely. If you've backed up your data. It's probably easier and quicker just to reinstall Windows, then install Ubuntu, the. Restore your back-up.

I do not have a proper backup, just my documents and pictures... I guess I might as well try Ubuntu if I did erase my data.

Well, if the boot volume was the only thing corrupted, reinstalling windows may save the other partition though I'm not sure what Ubuntu did or how far it got. If there are important files that you need, you could make an image of the drive and try to carve the files out using a freely available Forensics tool like FTK or Sleuth Kit.
