Hello! I think I bought a 125w cpu for my 95w board. The cpu is a Phenom II X4 955, the cpu number is HDZ955FBK4DGI, my motherboard(Biostar NF520D3), says it supports it but it also says maximum tdp is 95w, what do I do? Image of the cpu: https://ibb.co/PZvMN6Q
Should I keep my old Athlon X3 450, or underclock my Phenom II X4 955 to 2.6GHz as this solves the problem by a youtuber;

3 choices:
  1. keep cpu, change motherboard to one that'll work with a 125w cpu.
  2. return cpu, get a 95w version of Phenom II X6 1055T or other 95w cpu.
  3. it's ancient and struggles with anything several years old and can't deal with anything new. You can get much better Refurb Dell as a package deal from eBay for cheap

Thanks for the reply, but what should I do now?
Basically any modern system will outperform that, even a random $300 prebuilt or even a used system that's a couple years old. If you're overdrawing power from the motherboard you'll be tripping over current or over temp protection. If those safety features don't work properly then you're blowing something up or setting stuff on fire.
