Hi. I recently bought a computer with an Athlon Quad Core Computer. It goes slower than I thought, so I started checking out the Operating System (Windows 7) On the System Information Page, where it tells you info on the Computer, it's also supposed to say (Windows is activated) with the Product ID number and a Genuine Windows Icon.

This computer has nothing below the computer information.... nothing about Windows is Activated".. no id number, no icon.

I called the store and they said they had a "company disc" that they use for an unlimited number of computers, but I I want my own copy, I need to buy my own version, in addition to the cost of the computer.

Is this a legitimate practice?

Yes, that is a legitimate practice. The actual media doesn't mean anything. You can download and burn the ISO image to a DVD for your own media purposes. What you do require and what the store HAS to give you (if you don't have it already) is a valid product key (normally printed on a sticker attached to your PC).
