i keep getting a 503 message on sites that work on my other computer. things try to download all the time i just keep canceling them out. i have AVG and Advanced System Care. i ran those and they found nothing. i just downloaded Malwarebytes and that did not fix the problem either. also when ever i start the computer a pop up says "Persistence Module Not Working" i don't know what to do now. if someone could please help me i would really appreciate it.

Solution
Do a system restore back to a date right before this started. Also I would look in programs in the control panel and order by date. See if there is anything installed that you didn't install. Order by date because the most recent install will go to top.

Solution
Check msconfig for unknown applications in the start up

Uninstall all browser plugins (or your browsers)

Start your computer in safe mode (spam the F8 key during boot)

I suggest going to bleepingcomputer.com on another system and downloading combofix (Rename the executable) and run that from safe mode.

Once that has completed, reboot into Windows and run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

"Good" viruses don't often make programs and features entries.

this is so strange i saw and AVG toolbar that i do not remember downloading so i uninstalled it. that did not help so i uninstalled AVG completely and that seemed to fix the problem. i have been surfing around and no more downloads and no more 503 messages on sites that i know work like gamestop and Bensbargins ECT. but now i have no virus protections aside from advanced systems care and malwarebyts. so now what do i do?

maybe it was not a virus does AVG and advanced systems care not play nice together. can i just have advanced systems care as my virus protection. there is a little flag with a red X now that says turn on virus protection important. can ignore that what's my next move?

i think it was just AVG. i tried to uninstall "Advanced systems care and all of the things i got with it like the start menu and powerful uninstall, driver booster, ect. then i downloaded AVG again and i got the same problems. so i got rid of AVG and everything is working great now. my machine is even faster without AVG and "Advanced Systems Care". i am just using the windows defender that came with windows 8 right now. no more 503 messages or things trying to download on my machine. thank you for your help. but that "persistence module not working" pop up window keeps coming up. should i be worried about that.

If you can't locate the process or service that is prompting that error, not much more to do.

At this point you would be looking at a hand scrubbing of the registry, not for the faint of heart. Or a re-install of Windows.

Windows Defender is fine for protection against common malware, practically no zero day defense though (but that is sort of true of all them). As long as you stick to fairly normal websites you should be fine.
