I think my CPU is dead

I think my CPU might be dead, but I want to get some more opinions before I send it in for replacement.

I just moved to a new apartment. I set up my computer a few days ago, and everything was working fine. But the other day it froze and wouldn't restart. It doesn't even get to POST. When I turn it on, the lights all come on and fans spin, but I don't get any video signal or beeps from the onboard speaker. I've tried just about everything I could think of:

  • ■ Re-seat memory, swap slots, only one stick in slot 1
    ■ Remove everything except memory, graphics card, CPU, and cooling
    ■ Remove graphics card and just listen for beep (since I have no integrated graphics)
    ■ Reset CMOS
    ■ Take motherboard out of case, run from desk
    ■ Swap motherboards (same model, refurbished and never tested by me)

Nothing seems to work. I think that narrows it down to the CPU or maybe the power supply. Considering that everything seems to turn on, I feel like the PSU is working... but I was planning on upgrading it anyway, so maybe I should run out and get a new power supply just to be safe and make sure that's not the problem?

I'm not sure. But I wanted to see what you guys think. Anything I am forgetting to test?

CPU's are solid state devices that rarely ever die. PSU's are prone to failure.

The cpu is the least likely thing to die. How exactly does taking it all apart and putting it back together point to the cpu?

I went out and bought a new PSU just to make sure. No change. 🙁

im just saying it may be a faulty connection
