i'm having trouble running all games, i can go from 100 fps to 20fps in seconds. I'm aware of the bottleneck with the GPU but i have a friend that has the same CPU and doesn't have this issue. Is there anything i can do?

Solution
Does your friend have the same GPU and CPU? The 1060 is a pretty stout video card. I have an FX 8350 and a GTX1060 which is a lot more CPU than the 6300 and it will have frame drops at times, though not bad, so I have no doubt that your CPU/GPU combo is struggling. I had a 6300 for a couple of years and it played games fine, but it got to where next gen games it really struggled. They would play, but at low settings and would lag out. I found a used 8350 for 25.00 dollars and got it and not I play next gen games consistently at a higher frame rate. If you aren't wanting to upgrade your motherboard and all at this time, try and find a used 8350 and use that until it comes to a time when you can afford to do a bigger upgrade. You...

You won't get 4k with it, but you will be able to play 1080p with that combo pretty well.
