I think my power supply is putting too much juice into my rig...

Hi. I had my computer guy do something to my PC and when he was done we turned it on and ran Unigine and it froze up 10 seconds in. After we reset it it just showed no power message. After a few resets and same result, he hit the CMOS switch and then it went back to windows.

We noticed the Video card was making a weird noise which he thought was coil whine. But the noise is consistant so that can't be coil whine. I took the card out and packed it up for RMA thinking it was defective. Then I put in my old sapphire 7950 and it was making the same noise. I took it out to put it into a different PCIe slot and noticed that the connectors were different. My PSU has 4 6pin connectors and 2 2pin connectors. The 4 pinners are marked p14 through p17. P14 and P15 go together and same for P16 and P17. But the way my guy ran the wires, it was only possible to have like P14 and P17 connected to the card because it was too short. I took them out from behind the the case and ran them inside and connected them properly. I'm not sure if that was an issue or not but I did it. My PSU is a 6 year old Dell 875W from my old Alienware Aurora. It never had any issues till now and it was pretty quiet. After my PC froze and we hit the CMOS switch now there are 3 issues...

1. It looks like any GPU will make that coil whine like noise in any of the PCIe slots.
2. All the fans were spinning too hard, he had to put filters on them to keep them from doing so. Prior to this, my Corsair Carbide 500R case fans were totally silent. Now they are quiet again because of the filters, but I lost control of them.
3. The PSU is making a buzzing noise. My guy says its mechanical and that its the fan and it can be fixed...

Is it the PSU that's causing all these problems? Could it be pumping out too much juice?

My mobo is the MSI G45 Z87

Thanks. It's just weird how it worked all this time without a hiccup and now all of a sudden it's failing. Maybe it has something to do with me dragging it back and forth to the store I don't know. I guess it's time for a new one anyway.

I'm debating getting a 1000W Corsair for 200 bucks. I may want to SLI later for Ultra HD. Knowing myself, I will definitely want to lol.

Do you think a new PSU will make the fans go back to normal and the GPU noise go away?
