Also if you read carefully that's a X5272 and that "X" prefix leads me to believe it's an extreme edition... What do you expect for the extreme editions? They are ALWAYS above $1000 these days.
The first letter in Intel's Core/Core2 naming scheme is usually for TDP. An exception is the Core 2 Quad, which has a "Q" for "quad-core." An "X" is for a TDP >65 watts in a dual-core and >80 watts in a quad-core. Here's a list of non-Extreme-Edition chips with that X:
Socket 775 Xeon quad-core "Kentsfield"
X3210 2.13 GHz, 95/105 W
X3220 2.40 GHz, 95/105 W
X3230 2.67 GHz, 95 W
Socket 771 Xeon quad-core "Clovertown"
X5355 2.67 GHz, 120 W
X5365 3.00 GHz, 120/150W
Socket 771 Xeon quad-core "Harpertown"
X5450 3.00 GHz/1333 MHz FSB, 120W (note there is an E5450 with an 80 W TDP but has a list price $64 higher...)
X5460 3.17 GHz/1333 MHz FSB, 120 W
X5472 3.00 GHz/1600 MHz FSB, 120 W (also, there is an E5472 with an 80 W TDP that is more expensive.)
X5482 3.20 GHz/1600 MHz FSB, 150 W
Socket 604 Xeon MP quad-core "Tigerton"
X7350 2.93 GHz, 130 W TDP
