The problem is that I don't know if I have to convert it from SATA to USB or just keep it as it is . What do you guys advise me to do. And in terms of portability, considering that I have a laptop that I have to carry to school...what's better

Solution
I'd look for a SATA III to USB Hard Drive enclosure for your spare hard drive. Unless you're doing a LOT of file transfers, you won't need to carry it with you all the time.

I was thinking on having it be seen as an external HDD not as a partition, and use it for backup. Is it going to work?
