I bought my mother a CD/Valve amp combo for Mothers Day. I wrapped it in a gift-ribbon that had metallic flecks on it, so I thought I'd use some canned air to blow the internals clean before playing it.

I used canned air / compressed air on a circuit-board at the back of the unit after taking the gift-ribbon off, and...it's not made a sound since.

It's the first time I've ever used canned air. I thought it was just simply compressed air, and over the years I've heard it recommended time and time again so I thought it would be okay, but I sprayed the circuitry in the stereo with it and it broke. The stereo looks like it's functioning properly but I can't get any sound out of it.

Apart from feeling like a total idiot for breaking my mum's Mother's Day gift right in front of her eyes, I'm also left with a broken stereo.

Is there something that can be done about this? Is it broken for good or will maybe giving it time to air out make a difference?

Help would be most appreciated.

Doubt it was the compressed air. Are you sure the stereo worked before you sprayed it?
Yes, I tested it and it was working.
When you sprayed, did any liquid come out?
Yes, I think so. I had no idea that would happen. Pretty stupid I guess but I just thought it was compressed air. My eyesight's not good so I didn't read the side of the can.

I tried it again this morning and still no sound from it.
