It's been over 2 years and I've never overclocked it. I have a bronze certified 650w PSU but I only have a stock cooler, even though it runs relatively cool. I am nervous and not sure how to install an aftermarket or liquid cooler.
I have a 7950 and I'm getting a GTX980 next year, so maybe overclocking my CPU won't get me that much higher performance and getting a new gpu will?

Solution
Ocing is worth it, might look to the Hyper 212 EVO (about $35) and it will carry you to 4.6 (if the CPU can OC that high). There are plenty of guides out there to help, also many of the 1150 mobos come with software and BIOS features that allow for OCing 'automatically' though I'd still go in after using them and see if voltages can be reduced

You can go that route too 😉 , removing the mobo is no big deal, there are two power connections from the PSU to the mobo, probably fan connectors from case fans to to the mobo and SATA cables from your drives to the mobo, remove the GPU and any other daughter cards (like if you have a sound card, or wireless plug in card, then there are 6-9 screws that hold the mobo to the case - might also check the other side of the case, many have a cutout allowing access to the bottom of the mobo for the express purpose of cahnging out a CPU cooler, where you wouldn't have to remove the mobo (plentyof easy to follow videos out there also

Yeah I might do that later, but my priority is to get a new GPU next year. My max temps for my i7 is around a 75c gaming.
