my specs are
cpu:i7 870
mobo:asus p7h55
ram:2x4gb dominator platinums

yesterday i got 2x4gb dominator platinums rated at 2400mhz and they say that are xmp compatible.
when xmp is off they ran on 1333mh but when i turn on xmp my cpu gets overclocked from 2.93 to 3.12 and the cpu stays at that frequency even at idle,,my usage at idle averages at 5-10%..Is it okay to let it run only at 3.12?

Your motherboard states max speed supported is 2200mhz. Otherwise I don't see any issues with the CPU operating at a slightly higher frequency unless the temperatures are getting out of hand.

No my temps are 35 at idle with my water cooler.So turning on the xmp feature is okay even with the cpu being constantly at max frequency ?.Also another question is how do i know after enabling xmp that the ram is running at 2200mhz

You need a hardware monitoring utility such as CPU-Z. XMP is technically overclocking.
