I want to change my hdd in my Lenovo S210 touch 64 bit UEIF preloaded Win 8 now 8.1 Notebook.
I have a problematic HDD which I want to exchange for a same size WD HDD in my Lenovo S210. I plan to clone the new HDD. I have read that people have had trouble having the computer recognize the new drive due to UEFI.
What do I need to do so the transfer goes smoothly?

Hey there, jhmac777.

About the cloning problems - it's always recommended that you do a fresh install of Windows if possible, but having in mind you're with an OEM Windows, you don't have much choice. Chances are that it should work, but there's always a possibility that something might go wrong especially if the old drive has bad sectors or corrupted OS data. That's why, I'd recommend that you always keep a backup of your important data, just to be on the safe side. If you haven't done one already, please make sure that you do, before you start the cloning process.
If the drive is a WD one, it's probably a WD Blue Mobile HDD. You can check it out here: WD Blue Mobile, it comes with capacities of up to 1TB and 2-year limited warranty. Note that you need to get a 7mm model in order to fit in your notebook.
About the cloning process, you could do that by following the steps in this guide:
How to manually clone a disk with Acronis True Image WD Edition software
, there's also a link for the required software, included in the instructions.

Hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any questions.

I have a 7mm WD Black hdd with a 3-5? year warranty. I was just wondering if I needed to change the hdd name in the UEIF and how to do that? I backup weekly. I was told to chkdsk drive before cloneing.

This is a possibility as well, I'm talking about the drive. When the HDD comes with a pre-built PC or a laptop etc (it's an OEM drive), then the warranty is covered by the manufacturer of the computer. However if you get a new WD Black Mobile drive, then it would have a 5-year limited warranty, covered by Western Digital. :)
As for the setup, you don't need to rename anything - just connect the drive externally via a SATA to USB cable, complete the cloning process by following the steps of the guide from my previous post and after everything is done - just swap the drives and you should be done.
You could do a chkdsk scan with the /F and /R switch e.g. chkdsk /r /f x: (where x: is the letter of the drive you wish to check). Hopefully it doesn't get things worse and corrupt the partition or data. Kudos on keeping regular backups of your data, many people underestimate this.
