[SOLVED] I want to update from i5-4590. What to choose?

Hi guys my current build is a bit outdated but it has served me very well even for some AAA titles

GTX 970 4GB
H97-PRO GAMER
DDR3 Corsair Vengeance LP 2x8GB 1600 MHZ

But ve noticed that my CPU is not performing really well recently even playing something like VALORANT or TFT its super Common to hit 100% CPU usage causing alot of lag and frame drops.

What wouldbe a good CPU upgrade, i dont really want to change the mobo or ram. Ive read similar questions and they recommended the 4790k but that was from 2 years ago so im wondering if theres a more up to date opinion on this matter.

If your budget is low I would get a i7-4970k and if you have a decent budget move to Ryzen.

You are on a 6 year old chipset. There are no newer options available here. If you can find a 4790k for a reasonable price, which I highly doubt, get it. I personally would not pay more than 70 $ for it, but most listings on ebay will be outrageous. 150-250$ dont pay that much. Rather save some money for a new rig.

Both the 4770K and 4790K are way overpriced in used markets at around $100-140, especially when considering your options for available new CPUs with equivalent or faster performance. It really only makes sense spending $100-140 for a 4c8t CPU if it's new and you are doing a full upgrade. If you can't afford to buy a new motherboard and DDR4 ram, then it makes more sense to buy a non K model i7 4770/90 CPU or the S/T variants for around $70-100.

People who are now looking to do a full upgrade to minimum 4c8t should first look at the i3-10100 or Ryzen 3 3300X and spend around $260-300 for CPU, motherboard and 2x8GB ram.

The 4790k is the top dog and will definitely help with the issues that you're having thanks to its much higher single thread performance:

The 4790 non-k version is a bump up in performance, but it is not as fast as the k version, even without an overclock. And if you look and are patient, you can find a 4790k for $100 shipped. To me, this would be the ideal solution to your problem and also would be an end of the line upgrade for your platform so you know the next step after will need to be a completely new setup.
