Hi everyone, I built my PC in 2015 with the following components:
  • i7 4790k
  • 16 gb ram
  • MSI Z97 Gaming 5 Motherboard
  • Gygabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming 4gb DDR5.
  • Corsair CS750M.
I want to upgrade my GPU, but i dont know which is the best choice in 2020 for my current motherboard.
Any ideas would be helpful.

Thanks.

It looks like you only have PCI-E 2.0 in a Z97. That is going to be the bottleneck.

What monitor/resolution?
Hello, the motherboard has (from what it says in the manual):
  • 3x PCIe 3.0 x16 slots (support x16, x8/x8, x8/x4/x4 modes)
  • 4x PCIe 2.0 x1 slots.
I have 2 monitors:
  • Dell S2340L 23".
  • Dell P2419H 23,8".
*Both 1920 x 1080 max resolution.

I looked it up after I posted. I would say a 2080 Super would be a decent upgrade the main issue is availability and pricing. It looks like the 2080s and 3080s are going to be similar in price so maybe a 3080 when things get back to normal.

I had a 2016 build
17-6700K
DDR4 3400 RAM
Gigabyte Gaming 7 Z170 MB
Originally a 1080

When I upgraded to the 2080 Super is was a noticeable difference.
