I Want to upgrade my PC. Here's the current spec

So right now I have
AMD R9 270 2GB
Intel i3-3240 3.40Ghz
and 8 Gb of Ram

So if I have budget of $500 and I want to run the latest upgrade. What should I upgrade and where to?

I might upgrade to GTX 970 first, then upgrade the CPU to a i5-4460.

If I changing from AMD card to NVidia card.... What problem will I face beside to uninstall the AMD driver and change it to NVidia. Is there anything more to be aware with?
