I have an Asus M11BB-B10 AMD 5500/8GB/1TB computer. The graphics is Radeon 7560D and I believe it is on the mother board. I want to upgrade my video to a Geoforce GTX 1060 card. I have two extra slots so I think I can install it, with the new drivers and switch off the onboard video in Bios. Is this possible?

Solution

a gtx 1050 ti is about max you can run with your current specs
- make sure it is a 75w version, and does not require a 6-pin pcie cable -

forget bout VR on it, that requires a complete new setup
I second the choice of a 1050 Ti. One, because you can get the 1050 Ti in models that do not require a 6 pin pci-ex connector. Two, because I think a 1060 would be overkill for that APU. I'd probably just install the card and see if the onboard graphics automatically get disabled. Worst case you reboot into the bios and do it manually. Don't forget to connect the monitor the videocard and not back to the motherboard.

I would prefer the 1060 as the 1050 won't do Oculis rift and the 1060 will not become obsolete as soon, but will my CPU and Mother board accept this card?

your setup is too weak to maintain the required fps for VR for a good experience, even with a 1060, you would also need a new power supply for it to even run

your asus pre-built has an a10 cpu, which is inadequate for anything higher than a 1050 ti. And very sub-par for VR

you want a intel i5 cpu minimum

So you thing I should go with the 1050 and forget about the vr for now. Do you foresee any problems with the 1050 ,power supply (rated 300 to 350W), CPU,
or anything else
