I want to upgrade the RAM of my current Laptop. Will the old RAM work ?

Hello Community,
I want to upgrade the RAM of my current Laptop.
Its pretty slow, not too slow, but still feels like it is running slow.
Here are the specs of the laptop:
intel celeron 900 @2.2
1gb ram
160gb hdd
integrated graphics

i have an old laptop (another laptop not this)
it is an hp laptop and its motherboard is ........ DEAD
I once opened that laptop and noticed that one of the RAM sticks is accessible.
It was written , 1gb ram
the ram stick pins and slot on my laptop match.
So, can I upgrade my RAM to 2gb
1 slot is empty on my latpop
My current laptop has windows 8 installed on it.
Will I need to again install windows ?

Please Help. Tell me.

depends on what kind of ram each laptop uses. we need more information...like make and model of both laptops or the type's of ram each has.

I don't know much information about the old laptop because i do not own it.
It is written outside hp dv2000
on the stickers, it is written intel centrino inside with nvidia graphics.
I assume that the laptop and my latpop both have ddr2
My laptop has ddr2 , it is confirmed
My laptop:
Dell vostro 1015
intel celeron inside

the hp has ddr2 533 and the dell has ddr 2 800. you can use the hp's in the dell but it will cause the ram in your dell to drop to ddr2 533 speeds. your better off buying a new stick of ddr2 800 for your laptop.

i would just buy new ram like this
