No. Your router should usually handle DHCP. For home use, you only need the most basic switch. I would recommend paying the little extra for a gigabit one, though.

Thank you sir for answering my question so quick,,,..I was thinking about the Linksys LGS 124 switch but the spec show it only has DSCP capabilitys....as you can tell I'm new at this stuff and just trying to get some understanding on all these protocals......so i guess that the Linksys LGS 124 switch will work then,even thou it's a 24 port gb switch.......
Thank you Sir for your help,,I took you advice about purchasing the switch on ebay,,i got a d-link dgs-1224t really cheap and he even payed the shipping,,,,i hooked it up and everything is functioning, ,,,so thanks again for helping out dummies like me
