i was given a HP Pavilion p6112p it runs ok (note it has only a 300w psu) will my asrock h97 pro4 fit in the case paired with an i5 4590? will the psu be able to run it all? i just have a spare i5 and a motherboard i need a place to stick with power.

Nope, sorry. That HP PC only fits a micro ATX motherboard (mATX). Your ASROCK board is a full sized motherboard. Even if it would fit, I wouldn't put a newer i5 chipset with the cheap PSUs that HP use in their consumer grade OEM builds...especially one that is already probably 6+ years old. You would be asking for frying your CPU/motherboard.
