Looks like about a $1,300 value. Your pretty much paying for Blue Ray, 500GB Hard Drive, Q6600, Motherboard, 3GB RAM, 8800gt, PSU, and case (incl. fans) though I might be a bit generous in the price. You can find better quality components building it yourself as well.

I disagree did you add in bluetooth, media reader, wireless card, 15 month AV protection, powerdvd 7.0, Adobe Premier Elements Photoshop Elements, and Soundbooth Software, vista, keyboard, mouse,

no way I saved 800 dollars at least. And I dont have to stress about building. I take that time saved and spend with my family.

let some one else do the work for you I say.

also this is probably a very quiet computer.

Sounds like dell is trying to compete with Gateway's new FX...you get an AMD Phenom 9600 + 3 gigs DDR2 + 8800gt 512mb + other goodies (dont know the exact details off the top of my head) for around $1000...would still prefer to build my own system...lol

Onboard audio, no audio output, no monitor, ADOBE and ROXIO freeware, no overclocking, etc. for $1040?

Oh, wait - it also includes:

Internet Search and Portal
Dell Resource DVD with Application Backup
DELL SUPPORT CENTER 2.0
Dell Owners Manual
Trend Micro PC-cillin InternetSecurity

That makes it all worth it.

I believe you may be able to OC an XPS. (on second thought my friend may have had to flash his BIOS to OC) My friend has one you could at least, though it's two years old. Regular Dell systems of course will not OC but XPS is the enthusiast line.

Good thing it's blu-ray and not hd dvd! That race is pretty much over since WB went blu.

I don't think Dell uses anything ther then Intel motherboards which means almost no OC. Even if you could OC most of the Dell motherboards I've seen won't even accept standard CPU coolers, so you're stuck with the what they come with which is usually worse then most stock coolers.

Why? So that you can have an expensive CPU and expensive RAM that run like crap? Oh, wait that's what a Dell is for.

OP, enjoy your new computer. It should be very solid and although it can be fun and rewarding to build your own, it's also very nice to have Dell's standard next-day onsite service when something goes wrong.

Of course, you are posting this on an enthusiast forum; naturally you should expect a lot of flack from the hardcore do-it-yourself crowd.

Adobe Premiere Elements Photoshop Elements is a great package for anyone who wants to start editing video at home. You can find the combo package under $100 sometimes, $150 typically. That's a great value to throw in for free on Dell's part.

That system is a good deal for an XPS. It's no enthusiast rig, but neither is it the dog some are making it out to be. It's those people still buying the latest greatest prebuilt $1000+ with Pentium D from Best Buy et al who are getting reamed. You made out well.

You are right that you can't add your own cooler, but the unit is far from a stock Intel cooler. I own a Dell Precision 390 with Q6600. The cooler is a tower cooler built surrounded by a custom housing with a large 120mm an added to the front of the housing unit. The air flow is fantastic and feels close to room temperature

The reason I posted this here is to shake it up a little bit on this forum. I have built a computer before in the past ( 5 years ago) and really enjoyed the experience and loved my rig. I was going to build another one, but then this deal came along. ALso had to weigh in the time that I have now saved and will spend with my wife, kid and work.

I think people should now there are non-enthusiast options out there with there cost and time advantages.
