A description: my computer turns on and my mouse and keyboard light up but it shows no video on my monitor even though it recognizes that my computer is on.

It is important not to damage more. Act with care without haste. Turn off the computer and unplug it and press the power to remove all the electricity, every time you handle.

When manipulating, other elements are sometimes touched.
Check the cables, especially the 4/8 pin cpu feed. Also the graphic card. Try starting with a single memory stick.

Okay, Some simple rules to help you in the future:
Rule #1: Don't play with the components inside your computer while it is on (don't unplug things or move them).
Rule #2: Ground yourself before you touch anything inside your computer.
Rule #3: Back up your system if you are planning to make some changes.
Rule #4: don't eat or drink over an open computer (cover off).

If these don't make sence to you or don't seem worth the hassle, I got some beach front property in Oklahoma I'd like to sell you.
