I was thinking about converting my Mac laptop to run Linux

I have a Windows for gaming at home, but I use this Mac laptop for school/etc. Is this possible? If it is, is it even a good idea?

I would like to be able to go back to Mac OS if I want to later, so is there a way I can save the Mac OS on an external hard drive? Should I put Linux on a external hard drive as well?

Just run it as a virtual machine.

Download VirtualBox.

You can dual boot MacOS and Linux. This is probably best way.

Of course you can virtualize but performance is not the same..
