If you have a friend with an external drive dock then you could have them check the drive.
You could also use a PC's internal Sata & Power connector to test with but I prefer testing drives externally. Sata Laptop & Desktop drives use the same connectors thankfully.

For laptop drives you only need something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-2-5-Inch-Adapter-Optimized-EC-SSHD/dp/B011M8YACM
Desktop drives need more power and then a Dock comes in handy (they also fit laptop drives)

Okay so your C drive is (im assuming) the solid state drive and the D drive (assuming) is the mechanical hard drive. Can you still start up the laptop alright? Your machine should not take longer to start up because of a failed game drive, or whatever the D drive was.

In terms of resolutions, if there was important data on the D drive, you could spend a few hundred dollars to try to have somebody recover the data, but maybe this is the lesson that you NEED an online backup. Backblaze is 6 dollars a month, or $60 per year for unlimited data backup. Watch this video to learn more about it.

Next step is to check the and see if it's listed int he bios,
if you can feel it spinning or hear it clickiing away.
no spin is usually a power issue
clicking away usually means the heads can no longer read the platters.

Spinning without clicking away then i would try a new Sata cable.
