[SOLVED] I wasn't as good at building computers as I thought and I have a question about video cards

Ok so, I thought I was pretty good at building PC's, and was pretty proud of myself in 2014 when I built my current rig.

Now when I'm looking to upgrade it in a small way, it seems I was easily confused, thinking the mobo description said PCI 3.0 when it actually said usb 3.0.

I'm thinking I can bank on another 3.0 card working, and am trying to figure out if one 2060s is better than the bridged 760s I have, but I have been out of the game since I got married in 2015 and obviously before that I wasn't as good as I thought.

Any advice for me?

PCIE is backwards compatible.

I'd probably put some weight into upgrading off of AM3+ as well though, Bulldozer/Vishera were pretty slow and consumed a lot of power.

Graphics: 2x asus gtx760-dc2oc-2gd5 video cards (sli bridged)
CPU: amd fx-8350 black edition viscera 8-core 4.0 GHz (4.2 GHz turbo) socket am3+ 125w fd8350frhkbox
Storage: multiple Tb HDD (no solid state)

Your card would get to work but the cpu will bottleneck the max performance. if you're aiming for an upgrade, what are you going to use that for?

im thinking of getting back into eve online a little bit, but mostly solo player video games like pathfinder kingmaker or stuff like that. I honestly mostly do console stuff to keep in touch with other friends, but I miss playing eve, so I’d like to go back to that, but not hardcore enough to go for a fully upgraded rig

wouldn’t that necessitate basically upgrading the whole system? Since I’d be getting a newer mobo, cpu, therefore ram, etc?

Depends on your budget, if you want to stick with ddr3, a i7 4790K and a z97 mobo would help increase performance yet still bottleneck the rtx, or, if you want to squeeze the juice out, get a Ryzen 5 3600/X or Ryzen 7 3700/X with minimal 2 pairs of ddr4 3000mhz ram, or stick with Intel i5 9600K or i7 9700KF with also 2 pairs of ddr4 2666mhz. but eve online, rtx would overkill that.

I just wasn't sure if it was better to upgrade that card or stick with the ones I have and Bank it for the next few years.

I'll probably have the scratch for a full build in like 3 years or so when my kids are no longer in daycare

In 3 years there is going to be a plenty good choiches, since the price of rtx maybe going to lower as the new rtx series are coming up. so you could save some bucks to total upgrade the rig you got, but if you meant for a tempoary solution, gtx 1660ti or rx 5600 xt is pretty much bang for the buck since you need to take care of your kids, and didn't game all the time yet still want to get the best performance with a budget

Don't buy a 1660TI. Go for a 1660 Super. It's ~70 bux cheaper and look at this performance difference. An extra 1 to 3 fps isn't worth that price increase.

Really goes to show how clogged Nvidia's lineup is recently. The pricing is completely wonky, compared to gains.
