I would like to get an opinion on this laptop

Hi, im in the market for a new laptop and was wondering if this one would be a good choice for both school work and some mid level gaming

My main concerns are temperatures and performance, im worried the i7 core may become a little overheated and that it's not going to have great performance for gaming

Any advice will be greatly aprecciated, my current laptop has slowly been cooking itself and i really want to pick a good laptop, thanks

For the price you could get alot better,
Ive seen gaming laptops that are much better at same price.
Dont be decieved by the saying - Gaming-Laptop - they offer excellent specifications)

Also i recommend you get a min of 16gb ram.

Looks great,
The graphics card is approx twice as good as integrated, so youll be able to play most games at mid specs some at higher.
Good storage, good ram, has the i7 too

Did I miss something?
The specs say only intel UHD graphics.
That is not gaming capable.
8gb is likely not enough, and I do not know if ram can be added.

From the processor point of view, the 10510U is excellent and should not have any thermal issue under load.
It is usually the dedicated graphics adapter that pushes a gaming laptop over the edge.

If the school work includes portability, I might look at a 14/15" laptop that is easier to carry.
Lenovo legion are well designed and will often be on sale.

I'll give you the same advice i give anyone, and the advice i wish someone had given me when i was buying my laptop...
Gaming on a Laptop is a hoax.

firstly, if you want something for school you can easily get a decent laptop for 2 or 300 $.
use the rest of your balance to buy a gaming pc...
And here's why....

Laptop are not upgradable (Aside from Ram, though some of them have dedicated ram that cant be removed)

Laptops Cpu's are vastly under powers. I just looked up your CPU on a site i trust explicitly. Their benchmarking puts your Cpu at 25% lower than the Ryzen 5 3600 a cpu that was deigned to compete with the i5 9th gen.

Lastly and most importantly - will it still be usable in five years time.
Your laptop will have intel uhd graphics, which means that you wont be able to play most games in 1080p (Even on the low settings). With Intel UHD 620 - have to play the Witcher 3 (A five year old game) at 720p... so basically gaming is out.


That being said... it's your money and if you really dont want the hassle of 2 devices or have the space for a desktop then... sure - it's a pretty decent laptop.
all I'm saying is that for a $1000 you could get a much better Gaming pc with some sweet accessories - like a gaming keyboard or something like that

their benchmarks are usually spot on... so you're basically getting an overpowered CPU with almost no GPU power

Also i forgot to mention that laptops with i7 processors dont really use them.

I'm a computer science major - so i do use my laptop for running code and other things like that and I've never used more than 50% of my laptop's I7 8th gen CPU's total power...

in fact right now it's been on for like 2 week and i'm not using about 8% while typing this and playing an audiobook... so... you probably not gonna use all that raw computing power

I already stated that the Geforce MX250 is only double that of integrated graphics, perfect for mid-level gaming which is what the OP is looking for.
He already posted a laptop which he liked the look of, and has upgraded his original decision (3rd post) I suspect for the price point of which he is willing to pay.
There will always be better laptops out there,
but you must suggest one that the original poster would like, not the ones that you would like.

The 1650 and 1650 ti are much much better than the MX250 but not as fast as the 2060. Also they are from the website you linked to, the newegg links don't include shipping and customs which is going to drive up the price, likely by alot.
