I currently run the following:
Motherboard- MSI z170A
CPU - Intel i7-6700K Skylake
GPU - GeForce 980Ti
I would like to upgrade my CPU to AMD Ryzen 7.

Is my socket size comparable?
Also is this possible with out having to re-install windows?

The amd ryzen lineup requires different chipset motherboards ( a320 b350 b450 x470)than intel( h110 b250 z170). It is not possible to install an amd cpu on intel platform , in this case z170 mobo.
You can only install a 6th gen and atmost a 7th gen intel cpu ( with bios update) , especially on this chipset.
Or you can just get an amd motherboard.

I hope you find this helpful.
