Good day everyone. I built my pc several years before on a tight budget. Core i3-2120, 4gb ram, geforce GT 630, and so on. I managed to upgrade my ram to 8 gb and now looking forward to upgrade my graphics card. Tired of playing games in low graphics settings, and lags around. I do play dying light, call of duty ghosts(never finish playing yet cause the graphics is terrible), GTA, FIFA, CSGO, crysis3 and so on. Gonna try forza too. Im planning to get a graphics card that will let me play games on 1080p with high/ultra settings. Probably will get a GTX 1060, but im not sure of it yet. Will research more on it. My issue now is, will my i3-2120 bottleneck the graphcs card? is it somesort not worth it, and better to get a new processor? Thank you.

Your i3 will be ok sometimes, and will hold a 1060 back way too much in other times.

I recommend searching for a used cheap 2nd or 3rd gen i5 or i7 if you want something as strong as a 1060.

Thats abit sad. BTW, what do u mean by "back way too much"? i dont mind if my cpu doesnt let the 1060 unleash its full potential, i just need lag free, high graphics settings on 1080p. My budget now only allows me to buy a cpu or gpu. Which should i get first? Thank you very much.

So, the gtx 1060 wouldnt reach its full potential but i still could play games on high graphics detail(1080p) with no lags right? N i assume i should just get the gpu first right?

You could grab a rx 470 or something like that and save the extra money (for a cpu upgrade) you won't see a difference because your cpu will hold you, you will get 1080p 60 fps most of the time but in a very cpu intensive games you will fall to 40-45 still playable in my opinion.

Where i come from (Israel) the rx 470 is cheaper by a 70$ from the 1060 3gb. But if they close in price so 1060 is a better buy

Sure, i will check out the rx470. I cant get the part where u say that i wont notice any difference because my cpu will hold it. Are you trying to say that its better to get the rx470 than the gtx 1060 cause i wouldnt notice the increase in performance through the gtx 1060 compared to rx470 cause of the cpu?

:bounce:

Get the cheaper, the difference will be minimal. I personally would go with the rx 470 for the extra giga of vram and cheaper price.

I will add it in my list. Is there any other GC offered by nvidia for the same price of the rx470?just wanna know. Thank you.

From nvidia you have the 970 3.5gb they are being sold quite cheap as second hand. Other than that you have the previously mentioned 1060 3gb. That's all i can think of right now from nvidia side.

Thank you.

Ive had my GTX for some time and im looking forward to upgrade my processor cause the CPU usage reaches 100% quite fast in most of the games i play. Im planning to get the i5-3470S. Should be fine to achieve better performance and eliminating the bottleneck for the GTX 1060 right? Thank you.
