I3 3220 and 8gb ram not working??

Hi I bought a Dell optiplex 3010 sff with 4gb of ram and a i3 3220. I wanted to upgrade to 8gb ram so I bought a 4gb stick of ram and when put into the pc it does not boot. The ram is of the same DDR (ddr3), MHz (1600) and pin (240). The ram sticks are of 2 different brands. Can anybody help please. Thank you.

Yes, buy a stick of RAM that are the same brand and model as the one you already have.

I have tried that and the problem is the same. Should I buy 1 8gb stick of ram and would it be supported on the mobo I have? Thanks.

You said it was different brand so it's not the same brand and model.
You will need to look it up in the manual for your dell to see which RAM types and sizes it supports.

It seems you cannot use an 8 GB stick as it only supports 2 sticks of max 4 GB each.
