I will be getting a r9 280 for my birthday. But the problem is the processor: i3 3220.I've no money to upgrade the processor. Will I experience any serious/noticeable bottlenecks and frame drops when playing new games like bf4,crisis 3............. and how will it effect future games?

Yes Intel builds are unmistakably more expensive than an AMD.
But the AMD build you mentioned would be more expensive (factoring the motherboard cost.)
For me I'm using an Intel i5-3470 (no-K) CPU and it runs great!

OP should recheck his/her motherboard whether it is a Z77/75 which is an overclock supported...

Crysis and Bf4 are both (multiplayer for bf4 wise) cpu hungry specially with 64p, and conquest maps. I'd say yes your cpu is a bottleneck.. upgrading to a good i5 cpu or even i7 is gonna be a good upgrade to make the 280 run fine.

It's going to bottleneck but I wouldn't worry about it since you can't upgrade it anyway. that's also a good graphics card and will be ready for the processor upgrade later anyways. In the future you can get an AMD FX 6300 and a motherboard for around 200 which is going to be cheaper than any i5 you'll want to hang on to for a while. Don't listen to haters the on amd, even though intel is better they are way more expensive.

If so I would recommend an upgrade to an I5-3570K or even an I7-3770K (if you willing to spend).
If not, an i5-3470 as mine could run BF4 just fine with high-end graphics card.

P/S with your pair (3220+280) you will lose an average 5-10fps maybe even more in modern games.
Well you will never tell the difference anyway (except those hardcore FPS lovers enthusiast) as shooter games will be fairly playable at 1080p with that grapchics card!
