Ok im back again i wasn't able to get myself an AMD Phenom II X4 965 due to the company being a pain in the arse about the transaction so i've had to look elsewhere i still have this i3 3220 recommended over the AMD 965 since i don't overclock.

Choices:

FX 4170:

I3 3220:

also going to buy a better powerpack to go with this i was thinking of an XFX 550w to go with my HD 6870 or does anyone else have a better recommendation (im in the UK) and also my budget is max £250 (Tight Budget)

Thanks from Ryan 😀

I would get the i3 because of its lower power consumption and better performance in most cases. But if you can find the newer fx4300 then get that instead. The FX4300 has better core performance and performs on par with the i3 and can be overclocked to surpass it.
