Games are getting cpu bound too. I wouldn't wan't to buy a dual core cpu at this time. I would rather get weaker gpu and get atleast a quad core cpu. So definitely 4440+r7 260x. You can upgrade your gpu later.
If you don't mind, fx 6300 is a nice budget choice and it is no less better than 4440. So I would go for fx 6300 so I will have money to buy a gpu like r9 270 or 270x. Consider it.

Tough call, but I'm going to agree with the i5-4440.

BF4 Multiplayer is very CPU intensive so the i3 would likely throttle you to the point where the better graphics don't matter at times.

And yes, the 4-core rig will last a lot longer. Drop in a better graphics card in two years or so and it'll last a few more years.

As for the FX-6300 being comparable to the i5-4440 I completely disagree. It's not even close, the i5 is way better. There are lots of benchmarks that confirm this though just substitute the i5-3570K or i5-4670K since 95% of the games perform nearly identically with these i5's.

Such as: http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2013/06/12/intel-core-i5-4670k-haswell-cpu-review/5

But where's the FX-6300? (it fell off the chart below the FX-8350)

If we're talking SPECIFIC games then the FX might do okay if it's more GPU bound, but definitely not on average. Also, BF4 benchmarks are often Single Player but Multiplayer is far more CPU dependent.

Well cpuboss gives 4440 7.2 and fx 6300 7.0 when all cores are used. Basically 4440 is as good as 3350p. Saying that 4440 is way better than fx 6300 is a statement I would definitely not agree. 4440 is quite a bit better but not way better. If you think, fx 6300 will be better choice considering his budget. He will even be able to afford 212 evo so with some oc fx 6300 will perform good enough for him.
I tested fx 8350, fx 8320, fx 6300, athlon 760k and 3350p, 3220,3570 because my friends had them. I tested them on bf4 multiplayer, crysis 3, far cry3, etc. Just because I wanted to.
And on games like crysis 3 and bf4, fx 6300 noticeably performed very similar to 3350p. That proves 4440 is not way better than fx 6300. You can oc it to reduce that performance gap and even will be able to afford a better gpu.

Guys, read this. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/2014-q1-sbm-gtx-780-sli-overclocking,3779-5.html

I think at the moment i3-4130 is still relevant. The $750 PC features the 4130 and GTX 770, managed to play B4 around 50 fps at 1080p in Ultra settings. I don't think at that rate it's called the 4130 is bottlenecking the GTX 770 (or if it is correct me, still newbie here).

And of course as time passes, we'll still have more time to secure a budget for an upgrade, an i5 or an i7.
